In a tragic incident, a young woman lost her life in a collision involving three vehicles on the N25 road from Rosslare to Cork, at Barntown in Co Wexford. The severe accident occurred early in the morning around 6:30, with a truck, a van and a car involved. The decease, a woman who was in her twenties, was behind the wheel of the car and was declared deceased at the accident site. Following this, her body was transported to University Hospital Waterford to undergo a postmortem examination.
The van’s driver, a man in his forties, suffered injuries and was escorted to Wexford General Hospital. Fortunately, his injuries aren’t reported to be life-threatening.
The area of the accident is being maintained for a meticulous examination by forensic collision investigators, with local detours set accordingly. According to official statements from Wexford County Council, N25 is likely to be reopened for traffic on Tuesday afternoon.
Gardaí are urging any witnesses to the accident or anyone possessing any form of camera footage of the incident, such as dashcam recordings, to report to Wexford Garda station or dial the Garda Confidential Line or any garda station.
The most current figures from the Garda indicated that the collision has contributed to an increasing trend of road fatalities this year, with a total of 119 deaths, an unfortunate rise of 14 from the same time frame the previous year.
