“Young Man Arrested for Multiple Offences”

A male individual in his twenties is currently detained by the Garda after being apprehended in connection to incidents of vandalism, a road mishap and confiscation of a presumed firearm last Thursday. All these events transpired on the same date earlier this month in Cork.

The vandalism was reported at a residence in Shanakiel around 5.40pm on the 23rd of August. Approximately thirty minutes later, a man in his sixties was hit by a motorbike on Churchfield Road in the city.

The injured pedestrian was moved to Cork University Hospital for medical attention to non-fatal injuries and remains hospitalised, with his health condition deemed serious.

Neither the motorcyclist nor the passenger stayed at the incident scene after the collision. A believed firearm was later seized by the Garda.

The apprehended man is now in Garn custody. His detention is under the terms of the Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939, at a Garda station in southern region. Gardaí are seeking anyone with related information or road users with video content to get in touch.

Earlier, another man was apprehended in relation to this offence. However, he was released without any charges, and a file was dispatched to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
