WSBK Misano – Stunning Smrz takes Superpole

In very cloudy Saturday afternoon at the Misano World Circuit, the Superpole went to a magnificent Jakub Smrz on a satellite Ducati and a record breaking 1.
35.
435 on the Santamonica track.
Guandalini team manager Pierfrancesco “Frankie” Chili, who turned 45 today, couldn’t ask for a better birthday gift.
Smrz also ended Ben Spies record breaking run of seven consecutive Superpoles.

In Superpole 1 it was Jonathan Rea on his Honda Ten Kate who lead with a time of 1.
36.
054 leaving out Gregorio Lavillia, Rubeun Xaus, and both Kawasaki riders, Broc Parkes and Jamie Hacking.
The second Superpole stint saw Max Biaggi who was heading to a virtual third place on his final run, have serious electronic problems and finally getting edged out by Shane Byrnes last run.
Leon Haslam, Fonsi Nieto, Shinya Nakano, Spies team-mate Tom Sykes, Troy Corser who at one point was running fourth, and Misano homeboy Lorenzo Lanzi did not make the last cut.
In Superpole stint 3 on the opening lap Kiyonari lost his front and crashed out and returned to his garage to pick up his spare bike but could not better an eighth place, but will be starting on the second row of the grid with the leader of the WSBK Championship Noriyuki Haga, Brit rider Shane Byrnes, and Honda Ten Kate Carlos Checa.

The first row grid will see Smrz, Jonathan Rea, Ben Spies in third and Michel Fabrizio in fourth.
Spies tried to challenge Smrz with a final run but left his garage with less that 1 minute and 40 seconds to go in the stint and lost his chance by not crossing the line before the checkered flag was waved.
