WSBK Misano: Carlos Checa leads in QP1

After seeing Casey Stoner crush the field during FP2 and no one able to get close to him, and the QP1 lap times in WSBK at Misano, you don’t have to be a genius to understand that there’s going to be much more tight racing at the Italian circuit than at Silverstone on Sunday and which will probably be more exciting to watch.

Carlos Checa once again lead the field and even if Max Biaggi wasn’t as close as this morning he still was only a little more than a tenth of second adrift and second.
WSBK rookie Marco Melandri made a big jump forward to take third followed by Michel Fabrizio on the lone Alstare Suzuki.
Troy Corser took fifth, but had a massive highside at turn 8 landing heavily on his back with less than four minutes left in practice, which was red flagged.
Apparently Corser seems okay, but is currently undergoing a check-up at the Clinica Mobile after taking a blow to the head.
Other Yamaha rookie, Eugene Laverty also made a spectacular jump from this morning’s 17th to take the 6th spot.

The Effenbert Ducati duo were 7th and 9th, with Noriyuki Haga sandwiched between Smrz and Guintoli.
Closing out the top ten was Tom Skyes who led a pack of Brit riders.
The last rider to be within a second from Checa was Leon Camier in 13th, but he too suffered a crash.
