Woman’s Fatal Fall at Moher Cliffs

A young lady has tragically lost her life after plunging from a cliff at Co Clare while exploring with companions. She was said to be a university scholar visiting the Moher Cliffs along with three acquaintances when she fell due to loss of footing. The assumption is that the group consisted of individuals of diverse cultures, none of whom are residents of Ireland.

The incident was reported around 13:20 on the weekend and triggered a search and rescue endeavour coordinated by surveillance officers situated in the marine rescue hub of the Irish Coastguard at Kerry’s Valentia Island.

The Doolin unit of the Coast Guard and the local constabulary were among those who responded to the emergency. The search and rescue helicopter located at Shannon was additionally tasked with the rescue. Rescue 115 was already airborne and en route to the Aran Islands for a drill exercise when it was deployed to the scene. The helicopter reported to the search zone within mere minutes.

Aid was also provided by the RNLI all-weather lifeboat from the Aran Islands, and fire and rescue units from the Ennistymon station of Clare County. Assistance was also expected from Clare Civil Defence’s drone crew, but they were later relieved of duty.

A rapid scan of the area was performed and a body found promptly. The body was recovered from the water by the crew from the Aran Island lifeboat and conveyed to the Doolin Pier, where local Coast Guard volunteers and police officials were present. The cadaver was then brought to the Doolin Coast Guard facility, where the woman was officially confirmed as deceased.

The woman’s body would be moved to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem investigation would be underway.

The authorities confirmed the incident at Moher Cliffs in a statement, where they stated that the body of a woman, in her early twenties, was recovered from the water. The authorities also clarified that the body remained at the scene.

The Moher Cliffs can scale up to 702ft (214m) and are approximately 390ft (120m) at the southernmost end at Hags Head, the location of the recent incident.

In January of 2019, a 26-year-old was lost to a fatal fall while capturing photographs at the famed tourist hotspot.
