A lady, identified as Linda O’Flynn (31), recently appeared in front of the Bandon District Court, charged with the murder of a man, Michael Foley. Michael’s lifeless body was discovered in his residence in Macroom, Co Cork, on February 6th, 2024. Mr Foley, at the time of his demise, was 61. The defendant, Ms O’Flynn, was met with jeers from Mr Foley’s loved ones as she made her way into the court.
Ms O’Flynn, a resident of Leeside Apartments, Cork, was faced with a murder charge, a single count, as outlined to the court by Inspector Kay O’Donoghue. Detective Garda Denis Curtin, detailing the arrest and charges, underscored that Ms. O’Flynn was detained at Bandon Garda Station, and charged with the homicide of Mr Foley. He relayed that in response to the charges, Ms O’Flynn claimed her innocence, declaring that someone else was responsible for the fatal stabbing of Foley.
A visibly traumatised Ms. O’Flynn called for psychiatric assistance to cope with the disturbing events she had witnessed. She expressed fear for her personal safety, mentioning that she would require protection if incarcerated. Defence lawyer Diarmuid Kelleher emphasised that O’Flynn, being a former heroin addict, required her daily dose of Suboxone, and demanded psychiatric support for his client while in custody.
Insp O’Donoghue informed the court that approval had been granted from the Director of Public Prosecutions for a trial involving Ms O’Flynn to proceed.
Judge James McNulty gave his word that the proper safeguarding measures would be put in place to ensure Ms O’Flynn’s well-being during her time in custody. He scheduled another court hearing for Ms. O’Flynn on Friday, June 21st, once again at the Bandon District Court.
