A Carlow female in her thirties was presented before a unique session of the community District Court this week, facing charges for the homicide of a local man. Sabrina Kehoe, resident of St Mary’s Park in Carlow town, stood before Judge Geraldine Carthy on Wednesday evening.
The court established that her arrest occurred during the early period of Tuesday following a deadly assault on Darren Quigley outside a residence at Market View in the New Oak Estate, Carlow town. Emergency service responders were summoned to the location just after 11:40 pm the prior Monday night, where they found the two-child father, seriously injured and unresponsive.
The court was made aware that Quigley’s chest and back had been stabbed four times. The 30-year-old victim underwent treatment on-site, before being moved to St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny where his death was later confirmed.
Detective Garda Philip O’Sullivan told the court that Kehoe remained silent after being read her charges and official police warning. She was acknowledged with free legal support following a request from defence solicitor, Alexander Rafter, to ensure any necessary medical care for his defendant.
Kehoe was ordered to be held in detention until her next scheduled court appointment at Carlow District Court this coming Friday. Additionally, a 23-year-old male, Conor O’Brien, resident of Oakley Park, Carlow town, appeared in court that same Wednesday evening, facing charges relating to the incident. He stands accused of bringing weapons to a conflict.
Detective Garda Derek McEvoy from the local Garda station informed the court that O’Brien remained silent after being read his charges and police warning. His legal representative made an unsuccessful request for bail due to the gravity of the offences, as adjudicated by Judge Carthy. Consequently, O’Brien was committed to Cloverhill Prison, his next court appearance scheduled for Friday at 10.30 am in Carlow District Court.
