Dear Editor,
Being a frequent visitor to West Clare during the summer season, I have consistently observed the poor state of traffic flowing from major tourist hubs such as the Cliffs of Moher, Lahinch, Doolin, and other coastal regions in West Clare, notably at Blake’s Corner in Ennistymon. I had initially thought that this issue was purely down to the inflow of tourists. However, a recent visit in late October suggested otherwise, with no significant reduction in traffic density or congestion compared to peak summertime.
Various local, national and additional stakeholders seem to tolerate this troublesome situation, which undeniably impacts negatively on the tourism-related businesses operating within the affected regions. At certain junctures, the requirement for an external adjudicator, equipped with appropriate powers to rectify these circumstances for the broader public interest, is paramount.
I believe we are currently at such a point, and I would implore all relevant parties to progress with direct, effective measures; not merely discussions, to eradicate this persistent issue faced by this particular sector of Clare.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Robert D Nolan,
