Academy Award winner Andrea Arnold, renowned for works like American Honey and Fish Tank, presents another compelling piece; BIRD. Barry Keoghan, Franz Rogowski, debutantes Nykiya Adams and Jason Buda star in this unique, moving, and brilliantly unexpected coming-of-age tale that explores life on the outskirts of modern society.
The narrative revolves around Bailey (played by Adams), a 12-year-old girl residing in a Gravesend squat in north Kent with her loving but disorganised single father Bug (Keoghan) and her unruly brother Hunter (Jason Buda). As Bailey edges towards adolescence, craving both danger and acknowledgement, her imperfect domestic circumstances shift as she meets the enigmatic Bird (Rogowski) – a traveler on his personal quest.
BIRD offers a captivating and eventually heartwarming exploration of the journey from childhood to teenagerhood. Irish audiences can view BIRD in their local cinemas from the 8th of November.
