No wonder Andorra, with its duty-free shopping, fantastic tapas restaurants, and chilled atmosphere on the ski slopes, has captured the hearts of Irish ski and snowboarding enthusiasts.

Situated high above sea level within the Pyrenees, the small state between Spain and France, known as Andorra, has undergone significant developments over the past years. Here, improvements to snow systems, terrain, and recreational facilities have been the primary focus, further boosted by its impressive snowfall records. Topflight highlights include Soldeu, El Tarter and Pas de la Casa within the extensive skiing region of Grandvalira, and Arinsal in the Vallnord sector.

The Grandvalira ski pass encompasses popular slopes around Soldeu and the vibrant nightlife of Pas de la Casa. Located towards the west of Andorra, Arinsal in Vallnord is a bit relaxed and less populous than Pas de la Casa, yet it boasts a freestyle skiing area and a lively after-dark scene.

Regardless of your preference between Grandvalira or Vallnord, you can look forward to a welcoming atmosphere, value for money, and top-notch skiing schools. Andorra is celebrated for having some of Europe’s finest skiing schools, which provide excellent tuition from English-speaking ski teachers.

The slopes of Andorra cater to all experience levels – from novice skiers to confident intermediates, and even off-piste enthusiasts who flock to the freeski slopes of Arcalis. It’s an ideal destination for family trips, revellers or a ladies’ ski, spa, and shopping getaway.

A highlight of Andorra is its capital city, Andorra La Vella. Offering a break from the skiing or snowboarding sessions, here you can indulge in the hot springs, thermal spas, saunas, and jacuzzis of the 25,000-square-metre Caldea Spa, or hunt for duty-free commodities among the numerous city shops. Treat yourself to tapas at a local restaurant for an exemplary winter holiday experience.
