The majority of people will begin their holiday by flying into the ultra-modern Suvarnabhumi airport in the country’s capital Bangkok. The country can offer a huge range of accommodation that can cater for most budgets with the capital having the largest choice. It is possible to stay in a five star hotel for under 100 dollars and budget options can go down to under ten dollars. The city has a pulsating feel to it and there seems to be something to attract your attention wherever you look.

Bangkok will appear to be very built up, with gleaming skyscrapers and spectacular shopping malls, but there are large, peaceful green public parks with serene temples emerging from the tree tops.

There is cuisine to sample from all over the world at very reasonable prices along with traditional bustling markets. Most people will move on to a different part of Thailand after a couple of chaotic days in Bangkok.

One option is the city of Chang Mai located in the North West of the country. The city is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and valleys. The mountainous surroundings are ideal for water rafting and elephant trekking with great views.

If you are more of a beach person you could travel to one of the tropical islands in the south. The island of Koh Samui has picturesque coastal scenery along with luxurious accommodation. There are also cheaper places to stay for budget travellers. The airport here is a tourist attraction on its own with the majority of it being open air.

One of the good things about Thailand is that you can travel from one destination to another within the country and feel you are in a completely different place. This provides a great sense of variety.
