Met Éireann has issued an alert to the public about the high UV rays that are expected today and tomorrow, as temperatures could reach 20C. Except for the far north, most of the country is anticipated to experience six to seven on the solar UV index due to the forecast of dry and mostly sunny weather by the national meteorological service.
Crowds are expected to throng the beaches and renowned tourist locations around the country, to attend Bloom, the country’s biggest annual horticulture and food event in Phoenix Park, or to enjoy barbecues at home with friends.
The suggestion is that all adults and children should consistently wear sunscreen, seek out shaded areas during the peak heat hours of midday to 4pm, and wear sunglasses on both days even if the sky becomes a bit cloudy.
Temperatures are forecast to vary from 16 to 20C, accompanied by light to moderate breezes. However, there could be more cloud cover in the eastern and northern regions at times.
Met Éireann’s spokesperson, Liz Walsh, commented: “The bank holiday weather isn’t too bad. Today is likely the best day, so make the most of it. Over the weekend, we could see temperatures reaching 21C. So, remember to apply sunscreen even in cloudy conditions, put on your sunglasses and hat, and enjoy the weather while it lasts. The mercury won’t hit the mid 20s because of the influence of northerly weather.”
The weather tonight is predicted to stay dry with initial clear periods, followed by increasing cloud from the northwest. The temperature is expected to drop to between five and nine degrees Celsius.
Similar temperature conditions are expected on Sunday, with the best of any clear or sunny periods likely to be in the south and southeast. There might be a minor drop in the weather quality with clouds building in other parts of the country and light, isolated drizzle emanating from the northwest.
Walsh elucidated: “We are currently in a calm, slow-moving weather front, but Monday’s forecast is fluctuating. The drizzle might become slightly heavier, but there are chances of it clearing up in the afternoon in some parts of the country.”
She stated that, beginning Tuesday, a workweek that will be cool and breezy and two degrees below the usual temperature, but noticeably dry. Most of Tuesday will be cloudy, with a gentle rain or mist moving eastwards. It will brighten up from the northwest, followed by sporadic showers. Maximum temperatures will range between 14 to 18 degrees, accompanied by moderate to fresh northwest breezes.
Wednesday will be a day of scattered showers and sunshine, quite cool and blustery. The highest temperatures will range between 11 and 15 degrees, with moderate to fresh winds from the west to the northwest. Thursday, similarly, will be a cool day with intermittent showers, sunshine, and mild to moderate winds from the west. The high temperature is forecasted to be 16C.
