“Weekend Sunshine May Continue Next Week”

Saturday saw a surge of beach-goers and vacationers, thanks to an unexpected return of summer weather on the island. The forecast promises an extension of this delightful weather on Sunday, with some optimistic expectations of further lovely weather throughout the upcoming week.

Meteorologist Mark Bowe from Met Éireann reports that these favourable conditions can be ascribed to high pressure passing over the country, resulting in mostly settled and enjoyable weather. He points out that the high pressure being ideally centred to our east, particularly over the UK, helps channel a south easterly wind across our country. This pattern pulls up warm air from mainland Europe, enhancing the overall warmth and sunny atmosphere.

Bowe suggests Sunday’s first half will mirror the current agreeable patterns, cautioning however, that the high pressure is predicted to slightly shift to allow an Atlantic front in. “We can anticipate intense showers initiating in the southwest Sunday evening which will then spread northeast throughout the night,” he remarks.

Despite this, Bowe reassures that the sunny intervals enjoyed over the past weekend will recur in parts of the following week. He sees “evidence of high pressure returning from midweek”.

The commencement of meteorological Autumn is on Sunday. Even though temperatures are forecasted to decrease a little, Met Éireann’s detailed prediction expects Monday’s peak temperatures to hover between 15 and 19 degrees. These conditions will be accompanied by mild to moderately variable, or a predominantly westerly to north-westerly wind.

Tuesday’s climate appears to follow similar trends with interspersed showers, some potentially heavy. By Wednesday, there are expectations of more sunshine and scattered lighter showers. Daytime temperatures are anticipated to remain between 15 to 19 degrees, with milder northern to north-easterly breezes.
