The US Justice Department conveyed to a federal court judge that it might recommend the compulsory sale of certain parts of Google’s business to ameliorate the damage instigated by its monopoly in the online search scene. This could pave the way for a historic antitrust dissolution.
In the legal documents presented on Tuesday, the antitrust regulators suggested that Judge Amit Mehta also has the ability to instruct Alphabet’s section to make available the underlying data they use for compiling their search results and their AI offerings.
The Justice Department disclosed in the court document that it’s contemplating behavioural and structural solutions that would put a stop to Google’s use of Chrome, Play, and Android to favor Google’s search and associated products and features. This includes upcoming search entry points and features, like artificial intelligence, to the detriment of competitors or new market entrants. – Bloomberg
