The URC is set to kickstart next season with Munster and Connacht battling it out at Thomond Park on the inaugural weekend, the league has disclosed. Connacht will make the trip to their neighbouring Munster territory on Saturday, September 21st, the same day Ulster will be hosting Glasgow. The preceding evening, Leinster will commence their season in Edinburgh.
As the RDS stadium is slated for renovation next season, Leinster is expected to use the Aviva Stadium for most of their home games. They’ll be back in Dublin for the second round to face the Dragons on Friday, September 27th.
Though the URC has announced its overall fixture, several match dates are yet to be confirmed, with the festive interpros being the major point of ambiguity. It’s customary for Munster to host Leinster at Thomond Park around St Stephen’s Day, but the date for this meeting hasn’t been disclosed. Similarly, uncertainty surrounds the date of Connacht’s Christmastime game against Ulster.
In stark contrast to a year that largely evaded standoffs with international matches, URC’s seventh round coincides with Ireland hosting Australia at the Aviva Stadium as per their November itinerary. The international slot, Saturday, November 30th, will also see Munster going against the Lions and Connacht inviting the Bulls to Galway. Ahead of this, on the 29th, Ulster will be playing Leinster at their home.
