Dear editor,
It appears from Sean Moncrieff’s piece on September 28th in the Magazine section that he holds the impression that academics enjoy a three-month vacation. In my years as a seasoned academic, I have never experienced anything of that sort, nor am I aware of any associates, in Ireland or elsewhere, who have. Such laissez-faire would actually be a violation of my employment agreement.
It is rather astonishing that although Mr. Moncrieff successfully completed his degree at UCD, he somehow failed to understand how universities function in reality.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Kevin J. Denny,
