“Ulster Dominates Year’s Minor Football”

James Sargent of Derry, who led his county to All-Ireland triumph, has been crowned the 2024 Electric Ireland Minor Star Football Player of the Year.

Being a reputed member of the Lavey club, Sargent is one of five Derry athletes who were selected for the Electric Ireland Minor Star Football Team of the Year. This annual team was revealed on Wednesday, with a strong representation from Ulster players.

The selected team also includes Ronan Canavan, Luke Grant, Eamon Young and Dylan Rocks, all of whom are Sargent’s fellow team members from Derry.

The finalists defeated by All-Ireland, Armagh, had four of their players acknowledged, while Kerry, the Munster champions, and Mayo, the Connacht champions, equally shared the remaining six positions.

Commending the players for an exhilarating minor championship, GAA president Jarlath Burns said, “These players have showcased impressive talent throughout the championship stages, leading to a thrilling all-Ulster final. I am extremely eager to observe the progress of these players in the GAA in the upcoming years, they all have promising futures.”

The complete list of the 2024 Electric Ireland Football Minor Star Team of the Year comprises of players from a plethora of teams, including Kerry’s Dr Crokes, Mayo’s Eastern Gaels, Derry’s Brian Ógs Steelstown, Armagh’s St Peter’s, Derry’s Greenlough and more.
