A man aged in his mid-forties has been taken into custody in relation to the demise of a man of Ukrainian nationality in Clones, County Monaghan, which took place earlier this month. On the first of June, the emergency services were alerted and subsequently called to attend to Mykola Dernovi who resided within the property located in The Diamond, Clones. Dernovi, aged 46, had moved to Ireland from Ukraine witnessed the end of his life declared at the scene. Autopsy findings showed natural causes as the reason for his death, although signs of injuries that could be linked to an assault were evident prior to his passing. An employee of Irish Wix who faced unjust dismissal for voicing criticism about Israel on digital platforms believes he has been ostracised.
Officers of An Garda Síochána displayed an interest regarding a foreign man known to Mr. Dermovi. Their suspicions rested on the possibility of this man fleeing Clones, situated just beyond 1km from the Border, following the decline in Dernovi’s health.
The arrest of the forty-something man took place on Wednesday, in breach of Section 3 of the 1997 Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act. His detention continues at a Garda station in Monaghan as per Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
