Ukraine’s Air Defence Downs Nine Russian Drones

The Ukrainian air defence forces, in collaboration with mobile drone hunting squads, successfully took down nine of the thirteen Russian drones operating over four different areas of the country, as confirmed by the air force on Saturday. These drones, manufactured in Iran and named Shahed, were intercepted above the central region of Poltava, the southeastern districts of Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovsk, and the northeastern Kharkiv territory, according to the official communique. Along with these drones, a Russian X-59 missile, launched from the Kursk region, was also intercepted and shot down.

Serhiy Lysak, the Governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region, informed that the drone attack that took place overnight resulted in the destruction of both commercial and private properties, and severed a power line. The extent of damage caused in the other regions is yet to be determined.

On the other hand, Russian air defence troops eliminated three Ukrainian drones on Saturday, in the town of Mozdok, located in the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania. Sergey Meniaylo, the regional head, confirmed this.

According to Russian media reports, this marked the first time the region experienced a drone attack. In a message posted on the Telegram app, Mr Meniaylo detailed that the attack resulted in minor damage and fires, but fortunately, no casualties were reported. The drone was reportedly targeting a military airfield, Mr Meniaylo added. – Reuters
