UK Police Memorial

Within the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas, Walter Jack designed a new open-air memorial to create the UK Police Memorial. It includes two low screens bearing the names and spaces for reflection. This place aims to commemorates all personnel who have lost their lives since the formation of the Bow Street Runners in 1749. Since then, almost 5,000 police officers and staff have lost their lives, with 1,500 being victims of acts of violence.

As a nation, we owe all those who have laid down their lives to keep us safe and protect us from harm a huge debt of gratitude.

The ceremony will guest no more than 400 people due to covid restrictions. Taking part to the event there will be policing family, chief officers, relatives, policing charities, UK Government and devolved administration representatives. Among them it will also participate the Prime Minister Boris Johnson, which is ending his quarantine period, and said:

This is massively important to me, and I think to the country, because we need to remember our police officers – men and women – are people who run towards danger, who put their lives at risk to keep us safe, and that point cannot be repeated often enough.

Opening the ceremony it will be a flypast by the National Police Air Service; accompanied by the performances of Katherine Jenkins and the British Police Symphony Orchestra. To follow the minute of silence for commemorating the fallen ones.
