Local politicians expressed their sorrow for the latest fatal incident on the infamous A5 road, calling once again for its urgent overhaul. Órfhlaith Begley, Sinn Féin MP for West Tyrone, voiced the community’s shock and grief over the loss of two more lives on this roadway. She expressed her sympathies to the victims’ families and friends, highlighting the continued heartache brought about by these lethal crash occurrences on the A5.
SDLP MLA, Daniel McCrossan, underscored that fatalities on the A5 could not be tolerated any longer, emphasising the need for immediate upgrade actions. McCrossan also noted the regularity of fatal incidents since the restoration of Stormont, expressing concern for the distress and fear experienced by those who maintain regular commute on this problematic road. Reiterating that there was no justification for further delays in A5 redevelopment, he stressed the real, palpable danger to people’s lives that each day of inaction posed.
