“Turners Cross Closure After Surface Damage”

The indefinite closure of Turner’s Cross was announced following “widespread damage” to its pitch, as a consequence of the First Division match between Cobh Ramblers and Cork City last Friday. This decision was the result of a meeting held by the Executive of the Munster Football Association.

Substantial portions of the pitch suffered severe damage, leading the decision being made in collaboration with and under the guidance of pitch contractors. The Munster Football Association released a statement ensuring all impacted parties that they are committed to restoring and making the Turner’s Cross pitch playable once again, despite the extensive works required.

This decision will have an effect on fixtures of the League of Ireland and the Women’s Premier Division. The first to experience this will be the scheduled match between DLR Waves and Cork City Women this Saturday.

The men’s team of the club will also not be spared, as games against Finn Harps and Longford Town may have to be deferred or hosted at an alternative venue.

The impact of Storm Kathleen was evident on the pitch during the First Division game. Speculations regarding its cancellation were present, but despite the conditions, Cork City emerged as winners with a 3-0 score.
