Everything you need to know about Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize nomination

Christian Tybring-Gjedde, a Norwegian MP for the Progress Party, has nominated Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. The western media has labelled Christian himself as a far right politician given his anti-immigration stance and less than favourable stance on Muslims. Surprisingly, despite sharing similiar policies to the President, the Norwegian said that he wasn’t the biggest Trump supporter and that the Republican leader deserved the accolade based on merit.

Trump helped to broker a deal between Israel and the UAE to de-escalate the conflict in the Middle East and it is for that reason that Christian has nominated the US President. Trump has been nominated for the award before for his work in the Korean Peninsula in 2018, yet again by Tybring-Gjedde. He lost out to Nadia Murad and Denis Mukwege that year.

Four other American presidents have won the prestigious award befor including Trump’s predecessor and adversary, Barack Obama who admits to not knowing why he had won the award. Trump, although he believes that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, does not believe he will as a result of his politics rather than his actions to reduce conflict. The results will be announced in 14 months time.
