Tributes to Kildare Nurse

A nurse from St Vincent’s Hospital in Athy, Kildare, Evangeline Sapon Musch, tragically lost her life due to drowning while on holiday in Sardinia last Tuesday. Evangeline, a beloved figure in the Filipino community of Ireland in her 60s, was swept away by the tide.

The evacuation of her body from the waves was conducted near the Portu Maga village in Sardinia’s southwest, according to Italian firefighting authorities. Evangeline, a widely respected figure at St Vincent’s Hospital and mother of four children, was commemorated as a popular individual amongst both the nursing staff and patients, noted Senator Mark Wall, adding that she had gone to Sardinia to celebrate her birthday.

A rich tribute was posted on rip.ie by her colleagues at Our Lady’s Ward in St Vincent’s Hospital. They described her as a real lady who always bore a smile on her face and stated that she would be sorely missed by her staff and fellow peers. They expressed their hope that her gentle spirit will find peace.

The daughter of one of the patients who received care from Ms. Sapon Musch expressed how privileged they felt to have benefitted from her tender care and love when she was caring for her late father in the hospital. She said that she was immensely grateful for it and hoped that Evangeline now rests in God’s care.

After her tragic demise, the Sardinian Fire Service officials deployed a helicopter to search for her and managed to locate and retrieve her body from sea.

Evangeline’s death notice mourned her loss, saying that she will be sorely missed by her companion, Ben, and her beloved children Lester Vhan, O’Giel Rio, Kent Harvey, and Ranel Quennie. Her grandkids Daphnie, Rhuzze, Ivan, Gavin, Vhon, and Harisha will also be heavily impacted.

The Department of Foreign Affairs in the country confirmed that they are aware of the unfortunate incident and have offered consular assistance.
