Travelling Italy by bicycle: bike sharing in Milan

Bike sharing programs in Europe are taking off, and Milan’s bike sharing is set to start at the end of November.
After a visit from Silvio Berlusconi to Milan’s Eicma motorcycle and bicycle show, Milan’s mayor, Letizia Moratti, has announced the start of the program called BikeMi.

In the gallery from Outdoor blog, you can see examples of 1,200 bicycles that will be posted in 250 stations around the city.
The first half an hour of hire is free, after which the tariff is 50 cents every half an hour for the following two hours.
While the choice to inaugurate this service in November, four months late, might result in people waiting until the fairer season to try bike sharing in Milan, the initiative is well intentioned.
