Trail Behind the Lifted Parasol

Dear Sir,

I find it puzzling that someone of Michael Harding’s extensive interests, wisdom, and exposure would even entertain the idea of a package holiday, as it is generally restrictive. His article titled ‘The only week Ireland enjoyed good sunshine, I elected to go for a package holiday’ (Life, October 9th) provides no explanation for this. Eagerly, I anticipate further enlightening conjectures from him.

Warm regards,

Can you claim a second maternity leave directly after the conclusion of your first?

Dear Sir,

Michael Harding broods in the gloomy Algarve, reminiscing about “the bathers and wave riders congesting Donegal’s sandy shores”. However, I can vouch for the fact that from the small golden inlets to the wide silver beaches, Donegal’s coastline that stretches over 1,000km is spacious, uncrowded, and welcoming.

Best regards,
Dr. John Doherty,
