Touring Lombardy: Camonica Valley and the prehistoric rock carvings

If you are travelling Italy, you should plan a visit to the Camonica valley, one of the most enchanting places in the Lombardy region; famous for its rock carvings by the Camunni, people of unknown origin which lived in the area more than 15,000 years ago, the valley is a true corner of paradise especially for those of you who love to get outdoors and enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature.

This year the valley will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the petroglyphs which are now under the Unesco protection; The valley which comprises the towns of Capo di Ponte, Nadro, Cimbergo and Paspardo, boasts more than 150,000 petroglyphs including the famous white rose, symbol of the Lombardy region.
The only drawback is that place is often teeming with schoolboys and teachers this, I know, can be a bit annoying! For further information about the park and its opening hours please click here.
