Tom Daley, the British Olympic champion diver, has confirmed his decision to retire from the sport after competing in the Paris Olympic Games. Daley, 30, who secured a gold medal at the 2021 Tokyo Games, opened up about his choice to end his career during a conversation with British Vogue. Daley, alongside Noah Williams, his diving teammate, cinched a silver in the men’s 10m synchro event in Paris, bringing his Olympic medal tally to five.
Upon speaking to Vogue, Daley expressed the surreal feeling surrounding his final games. He explained the immense nerves and pressure he experienced while entering the event, knowing it was his last appearance in the Olympics. However, upon seeing his husband, Lance, their children, Robbie and Phoenix, and other loved ones in the crowd, he felt affirmed in his purpose for pursuing the sport.
Daley shared that his final competitive dive was an emotional experience, but ultimately, he knew it was time to make this tough decision. He expressed his belief that now is the appropriate time to step back from the sport.
