In an incredibly gripping All-Ireland minor hurling semi-final, Tipperary bested Galway with a score of 1-24 to Galway’s 0-26, after additional game time was required. The match took place on a Saturday afternoon at the popular TUS Gaelic Grounds located in Limerick. Tipperary’s victory can be largely credited to Cillian Minogue, who magnificently scored his seventh point, giving his team the winning edge.
Despite working with a one-man disadvantage from the 29th minute when Rhys O’Connor was dismissed from the field, Galway managed to lead by two points deep into the extra time. Brian Callanan displayed brilliant skill, contributing 15 points, with six earned from play on behalf of Galway.
The match kicked off with Galway in control, with Cillian Roche leading the charge. After a while, Tipperary found their rhythm, and aided by Minogue’s trio of points, they pulled ahead by four points. They could have further extended their lead, but unfortunately missed two promising opportunities to score goals.
Later, Galway, seizing momentum, scored five consecutive points to regain the lead. However, their luck didn’t last as they lost corner back O’Connor due to an altercations off-ball – forcing them to be level with Tipperary (0-12 each) by the half-time mark.
During the third quarter, scores were comparatively low, with Galway’s goalkeeper, Seán Kelly, pulling off two impressive saves. Despite Kelly’s efforts, he could not prevent a goal from Euan Murray at the 50-minute mark, providing Tipperary with a 1-15 to 0-14 lead.
Striking back in the later stages, Galway managed to level the score. However, a missed opportunity to secure victory by Jonah Donnellan, whose final free kick veered off course, sent the game into extra time. In the end, Tipperary triumphed, setting them up for the final against either Kilkenny or Clare.
