Met Éireann has declared a status yellow alert for thunderstorms in various regions of the country this Friday. This alert applies to counties such as Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford, Wicklow, Tipperary, and Waterford. The forecast includes sporadic thunderstorms, potential hail, and related challenges such as hazardous travel conditions, reduced visibility, localised flooding and damage from lightning. This warning was given in the afternoon on Friday and is expected to be in effect until 7pm that evening.
As the weekend progresses, the majority of the weather is predicted to be predominantly overcast with sporadic rain heading south-east across the nation initially, though northern areas will be relatively dry with occasional brighter periods and showers. Saturday afternoon is anticipated to offer a combination of moments of sunshine and scattered showers, some of which could be heavy and accompanied by possible violent thunderstorms. The maximum temperatures are likely to range from 14 to 17 degrees.
Saturday night will see any lingering showers petering out, leading to mostly dry conditions in most areas and extended periods of clear skies, per Met Éireann’s forecast. Sunday’s weather is set to vary throughout the country. The northern regions are likely to experience predominantly cloud cover with sporadic heavy rain, while the southern areas are expected to see brighter conditions with periods of sunshine, yet interrupted by scattered, potentially heavy, showers with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms.
