The Police Service of Northern Ireland has taken three individuals into custody who are suspected of numerous drug-related offences in Derry. The arrests followed a report about a vehicle that failed to halt for law enforcement officers on Clooney Road in the city last Friday.
Around 11pm on the same day, witnesses reported a white BMW being driven recklessly at the intersection of Ardlough Road and Carnmoney Road. The car, identified as potentially dangerous, fled from the police and was later found crashed and deserted in a nearby field. It is reported that following the crash, three men fled from the vehicle.
Following the detainment of these individuals and a subsequent search of the car, the police located a suspected batch of class A controlled drugs. Among the detained, a 20-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs with intent to distribute, as well as various driving-related offences. Two other men, aged 22 and 23, were apprehended under suspicion of possessing class A drugs with intent to distribute.
The trio presently remain in police custody, and an exhaustive investigation into the circumstances of the incident is under process. The police have requested anyone in the vicinity at the time of the incident, especially those with dashcam or other relevant footage, to get in touch.
