“Three Must-Watch Sports Events This Week”

The 2024 Dublin Horse Show, starting on Wednesday, will be covered live on TV from Friday until Sunday. Featuring nearly 168 different classes and contests, the key events to look out for are the Aga Khan Trophy, known otherwise as the Nations Cup of Ireland, on Friday, Saturday’s Defender Puissance and the Rolex Grand Prix of Ireland on Sunday, which has a hefty sum of €500,000 as the prize money.

In the cycling world, the 2024 Vuelta a España is all set to begin over the weekend with athletes from 22 teams preparing to navigate around Portugal and Spain over the course of three weeks. The race kicks off from Lisbon and is confined to Portugal for the initial three days before it crosses into Spain. As one of cycling’s esteemed Grand Tours, it will culminate in Madrid on Sunday, 8th September.

Football enthusiasts have the Women’s All-Island Cup to look forward to. Established only last year, it saw Galway United clinching victory over Cliftonville in a tight 1-0 contest. The current season has 16 participatory teams, with 11 from the League of Ireland and five from the Northern Ireland Football League. The reigning champions, Galway United, are slated to take on Shamrock Rovers at the Tallaght Stadium in the weekend’s final.

The weekday sports line-up starting Monday showcases Stage 1 of Women’s Tour de France, Carlow Charity game and the Championship match between Luton Town v Burnley, while Tuesday and Wednesday are reserved for subsequent stages of the Women’s Tour de France and a League Cup match.

Friday, August 16th, will usher in the 6th stage of the Women’s Tour de France, with Eurosport 1 & TG4 broadcasting from 12.50pm to 3.30pm. The Dublin Horse Show is to be showcased on RTÉ 2, from 1.45pm to 6pm. In the realm of cricket, TNT Sports 1 will continue to exhibit West Indies v South Africa 2nd test match, day 2, from 2.45pm. Soccer aficionados can enjoy two La Liga games: Celta de Vigo v Deportivo Alavés at 6pm and Las Palmas v Sevilla at 8.30pm on Premier Sports 1.
