In an inquiry into illicit activities at Dublin and Meath’s cash machines, law enforcement officials have apprehended three individuals. This follows an accumulated €90,000 in cash withdrawals that were recorded over the previous week in the two counties.
The arrest came after the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB), who were involved in the investigation, discovered many instances of what is referred to as “cash trapping”. This act involves placing a device in an ATM that prevents customers from obtaining their cash after making withdrawals.
During this operation, the GNECB apprehended three males, who are in their 20s and 40s, last Friday. They are being held in a police station in Dublin, in accordance with Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act of 2007.
The officers seized a quantity of cash and several cash trapping devices as part of their investigation, which is still ongoing.
