“Three Arrested After Louth Derby Invasion”

Three individuals were apprehended following violent confrontations between football supporters at the Louth derby of the Irish League, contested between Drogheda United and Dundalk on the past Friday evening. Two of the arrested parties were processed under the Garda Juvenile Liaison Scheme, and one grown-up was issued a warning.

The violent outbreaks occurred post-match when fans of Drogheda United stormed the field within Oriel Park, where Dundalk triumphed 4-2. Objects were hurled and police along with stewards were compelled to step in.

In response to the unfortunate events, Drogheda United issued an apologetic statement. The club denounced the post-match aggression and disorder, labelling it as unpalatable behaviour, stating it firmly condemns such incidents.

The club further communicated its course of action in dealing with the matter. Liaising with security personnel, photographers and television teams to recognise those involved, the club plans to establish suitable penalties once all relevant footage has been analysed and facts have been gathered.

The club reassured all that there is no room for such conduct within their community. While the majority of their supporter base is exemplary, the club conveyed its regret about the taint on its reputation by a very minor fraction of fans.
