Third Suspect Charged in Corruption Probe

The Anti-Corruption Unit of the Garda has charged a third person, a non-officer, as a part of their ongoing probe into a Dublin based police unit. The individual is set to make a court appearance in Dublin on Wednesday. Previous allegations had already led to two Garda officers, including a sergeant, facing charges. Both officers had their court hearings on Tuesday. Alongside this, four members of the Garda are currently suspended, awaiting the investigation’s conclusion.

The slated court appearance of the latest individual charged, who is not a part of the police force, was confirmed by the Garda Headquarters. Commenting on the looming court date, they stated that the individual will present himself before the Criminal Courts of Justice. However, no additional information was provided due to the ongoing nature of the criminal inquiry.

In regards to the Anti-Corruption Unit’s probe, it was gathered that it focusses on the suspected illicit activities of a specific Garda unity in Dublin. Other leading stories on Wednesday include court action against PhoneWatch and HomeSecure and news of the HSE planning to hire thousands of employees in spite of a current hiring freeze.
