On a recent Sunday twilight, an unforeseen development struck France’s election history as the newly-formed leftist coalition achieved a majority win, delivering an unexpected setback to the established far-right National Rally, led by Marine Le Pen.
This startling outcome was a consequence of tactical balloting aimed at curbing a wave of endorsement for the anti-immigrant National Rally, headed by the young 28-year-old leader, Jordan Bardella under the auspices of Le Pen.
Previously, Le Pen’s political faction had been in a leading position in the primary electoral round of preceding week, seemingly headed towards acquiring the most parliamentary seats, and perhaps an unambiguous majority. Yet, a turn of events led to the leftist group New Popular Front rising to power in the second electoral stages.
However, the French legislative house is now divided into three factions. The leftist New Popular Front significantly lacks the majority necessary to guide the government. Thus, the trajectory of French politics remains shrouded in ambiguity and unpredictability.
