The total earnings at the company owned by Johnny Sexton have surpassed €2.2m

Before Johnny Sexton, the ex-captain of Ireland’s rugby team, retired from professional rugby last year, his management company, JAS Management & Promotions Ltd, had amassed a total of €2.25 million in profits. The company’s latest accounts reveal that it suffered a loss of €83,240 post-taxation in the year ending September last, largely due to a 157% increase in directors’ pay from €100,493 to €258,997.

As Sexton began preparing for his retirement from rugby, he made a considerable investment of €552,509 into the directors’ pension funds. An additional €62,337 was contributed in 2023. During this time, the company faced a reduction in its cash funds – down from €1.446 million to €1.3 million – even as the value of its financial assets rose by €152,313, from €729,513 to €881,826.

Now 39 years old, Sexton looks forward to boosting his company’s financials with proceeds from his upcoming autobiography entitled “Obsessed: The Autobiography”, which is slated for release this coming October. The former player retired after Ireland was defeated by the All-Blacks in the Rugby World Cup held in France.

Before he retired, Sexton had been actively paving the way for a career shift from being a professional sportsperson to the corporate world. Starting April 2021, he held a part-time role as the commercial manager at Ardagh, a tin-can and glass-bottle manufacturing company owned by Paul Coulson. As per his LinkedIn, he currently holds the full-time position of chief of staff at Ardagh Glass, a role he undertook from January this year.

Apart from his role at Ardagh, Sexton also works as an ambassador for Lexus. His commercial transactions are managed under Conor Ridge’s Horizon Sports, a company which also represents other prestigious clients such as Open champion Shane Lowry and fellow rugby player, Peter O’Mahony.

Hailed as a former World Rugby player of the year, Sexton was appointed the captain of Ireland by Andy Farrell in January 2020. Sexton, one of Ireland Rugby’s most accomplished players, led the team to a Grand Slam victory in 2023 and secured four European Rugby Champions Cups with Leinster.

In 2010, Sexton established his own company, joining a league of rugby players who have personal management firms to manage profits from business enterprises like sponsorships and image rights.
