Respectfully, in a letter penned by Terry Walsh dated July 15th, he revisits the age-old tale that the Russian term for station, ‘vokzal’, originates from Vauxhall Station in London. In reality, the inaugural station to bear this name in Russia was established over a decade prior to the establishment of its London counterpart (1837 compared to 1848), and was inspired by the neighbouring leisure park. Prior to this, the term ‘vokzal’ had been in use for at least half a century, taking its cue from Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens.
