The Palestinian women’s football team is scheduled to play at Dalymount Park on May 15th, hosted by Bohemian FC. The match aims to acknowledge the 76th anniversary of the Nakba, the large-scale forced expulsion of Palestinians during the 1948 Arab-Israeli conflict. Further matches between the Phibsboro team and Palestine are anticipated, following a conversation between Bohs’ COO, Daniel Lambert, and Jibril Rajoub, leader of the Palestinian Football Association.
Lambert claimed that football possesses the potential to effect positive change globally. He maintains that the match at Dalymount Park delivers a potent message of Irish solidarity with the Palestinians. Supporters’ contributions from the event will support the Palestinian team’s visit and assist with humanitarian relief initiatives in Palestine.
Bohs expressed gratitude towards the Palestinian envoy to Ireland, Dr Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid, for the role he played in facilitating discussions with Rajoub. Bohemian FC, based in north Dublin, already has ties with Palestine. Profits from shirt sales provide funding for sport equipment for children in the West Bank’s Tulkarem refugee camp.
