The number of fatalities following the floods in Kenya has escalated to 228

The Ministry of Interior in Kenya announced on Sunday that the count of fatalities caused by the relentless downpour and subsequent flooding has risen to 228. The country has been grappling with heavy rains that have led to extensive flooding and landslides. Weather predictions for the coming month of May only seem to indicate a worsening situation.

The Ministry’s statement highlighted the risk of more flooding in urban areas, low-lying and riverine areas. Areas with steep inclines, escarpments and ravines may be susceptible to landslides and mudslides. The incessant rainfall has wreaked havoc on Kenya’s infrastructure – damaging homes, roads, and bridges across the country, which boasts East Africa’s most substantial economy. The adverse weather conditions have also left at least 164 people injured and forced another 212,630 to leave their homes.
