It is native to Greece or Asia Minor and it is collected and handcrafted. Moreover, it’s interesting to note that to collect 1 kg of saffron it’s necessary to pick 300,000 flowers. 6. White Truffles The place among the most expensive foods in the world of this type of truffle is due to the specific conditions it requires in order to grow, to the special methods of collecting and preserving it and, also, to its particular taste and aroma. Ayam Cemani Black Chicken Ayam Cemani is a breed of chicken originating from the island of Java in Indonesia. Ayam Cemani specimens are completely black, from the legs to the entrails. This characteristic is so rare that the price is around $200 in Indonesia but, outside the country, this price can reach thousands of dollars. 4. Japanese Wagyu Steaks Japanese Wagyu steaks are another of the most expensive foods in the world. Why? Because of the amazing aroma and the buttery texture of the meat. Moreover, the idea that practices such as massaging cattle or feeding them beer improve meat quality. For these reasons, the cost of 1 kg can be as high as $450. 3. Dry-Cured Iberian Ham Iberian ham is a type of cured ham produced in Spain and Portugal. With a cost of $392, it gains the third place of the ranking of the most expensive foods in the world. The black iberians pigs from which the product is obtained live in the central and southwestern region of the Iberian peninsula and they are fed exclusively on acorns. 2. Moose Cheese With a cost of $1, 074 for each kilogram, the Moose Cheese is one of the most expensive cheese in the world. Mainly produced in Sweden by Christer and Ulla Johansson, it is created from moose milk. Moreover, Moose cheese is white and its appearance is reminiscent of feta cheese. 1.
