The Middle East, America, and Ireland

Gentleman, – It’s puzzling to decipher how such trust in the United States has been fostered. In the past, we have been given similar guarantees, like when the Israeli military initiated their shocking attack on Gaza. Regardless of the frequent and flagrant violations of international humanitarian law, the truth is that Joe Biden maintained his firm policy of ‘unyielding’ backing for Israel, no signs of ‘restraint’ have been demonstrated. The devastation on Gaza was total. A large quantity of the weapons used, bombs and missiles supplied by the US, targeted schools, hospitals, UN sites, and refugee camps, resulting in over 42,000 deaths.

With the horrifying events in Gaza continuing, and the incursion in Lebanon now occurring alongside Binyamin Netanyahu’s public discussions regarding a regime alteration in Tehran, the moment has arrived to acknowledge the hazards caused by the unwavering US backing of Israel, a state armed with nuclear weaponry. Regimes swearing allegiance to the objective of Middle East peace need to be less gullible about the United States’ part in the conflict. It is far from an impartial entity. Moreover, we should not let our understandable dislike towards Iran’s selfish and harsh regime to overshadow the potential consequences of an all-encompassing regional conflict.

The government in our country must take a less reserved stance in criticising the US military and political support for Israel. Obviously, the Irish nation must conquer its overwhelming fear of backlash from the US. – Yours, faithfully,
