The Last Boundary: Outer Space

Dear Sir,

A €2 billion injection into Ireland’s space programme at present has the potential to catapult Ireland to the forefront of space exploration, surpassing other European nations. This funding could be utilised for the purpose of training three astronauts to participate in International Space Station (ISS) missions, along with preparing one astronaut for the approaching Artemis lunar programme. Additionally, such an investment could facilitate the deployment of a rover on Mars and the construction of a dedicated Irish space telescope.

Venturing into such a bold initiative would attract over €1 billion per annum in direct inward investment for at least the next ten years. It would serve as a beacon to inspire Ireland’s up-and-coming generations of scientists and engineers, thereby establishing Ireland as a leading global hub of innovation for many more decades.

I pose the question: Is there a government official with the courage and foresight to promote the potential of Ireland’s youth and to champion Ireland’s prospects for an inventive future in this manner?

Yours sincerely,
