Ruth Purcell Healy, a 37-year-old woman from Bishops Field, Williamstown, Waterford, has been charged with the murder of her young son and will continue to be held in custody. The decision was made by Judge Kevin Staunton at Waterford District Court.
Her solicitor, Mr Ken Cunningham, informed the court that Ms Purcell Healy was medically unfit, thus unable to attend court proceedings. He proposed that the case be adjourned for 28 days. When questioned if a request for bail had been submitted to the High Court, Mr Cunningham confirmed that due to ongoing medical treatment, there had been no such application made.
Ms Purcell Healy has been scheduled to make an appearance through video conferencing at Waterford District Court on March 26th.
The woman stands accused of killing her six-year-old son, Matthew Healy, during the timeline between 8th and 9th of February, 2024. Matthew’s lifeless body was discovered in a vehicle at Rathmoylan Cove, Co Waterford, on the 9th of February. His death was officially declared at Waterford University Hospital. Funeral services for the young boy were held on February 14th in Cork.
Following the incident, Ms Purcell Healy was arrested at the scene and was formally charged with the murder of her son on the 13th of February, a day prior to his funeral.
