The intricate system of Non-Governmental Organisations

Dear Editor,

Indeed, the government notably the Green Party, was given a rude awakening with the recent referendum results. The NGO sector, which ardently supported the ‘Yes’ vote, should also heed the narrow margins.

The past few decades have witnessed substantial sway held by the so-called social partners over the country’s trajectory. As a citizen who does not belong to a trade union, farming sector, clergy or any self-elected organisations often termed as the alphabet soup, my only conduit to impact has been through the polling booth. Disturbingly, there’s less impact from an Opposition or backbench TD than what the heads of so-called charities and lobby groups command.

The necessity is for both the Government and particularly Fine Gael, to demonstrate resolution and pay heed to the electorate’s voice instead of capitulating to the loud minority.

Yours faithfully,
Matthew Glover,
Lucan,
Co Dublin.
