The Importance of Mothers at Home

Dear Madam, – The pledge from Prime Minister Simon Harris to lower childcare costs (“Childcare reform slated to be prominent in FG manifesto, suggests Harris”, October 26th News) will certainly be welcomed by many households. However, the policy debates concerning childcare often overlook those mothers who aspire to take care of their younger children at home, but the financial implications of sacrificing an income make this impractical. As the expense of childcare decreases, the financial burden on those mothers who choose to nurture their children at home instead of bidding them to nursery increases.

I would appreciate it if a political party recognises the significance of stay-at-home mothers and understands that the two-income predicament forcing women to return to work too early is just as much a challenge to be addressed by politicians as the hefty childcare costs. – Yours faithfully,
