The High Cost of Car Rentals

Letter to the editor,

Seán Moncrieff’s article, “The woman in the car rental office was a black hole of emotion” published on October 5th in the Magazine, aptly elucidates the deplorable practices employed within the car-hire realm. An invaluable piece of advice to counteract these malpractices would be to film a detailed video of the car’s exterior in the presence of car rental staff at their office. This exercise could be instrumental when the vehicle is returned, especially if one is confronted with an unreasonable charge citing a doubtful “scratch”. Such a scratch, if it exists at all, could have been present before you even hired the car. Having proof in the form of video footage would offer a strong foundation for a robust argument and perhaps unsettle the “black hole of emotion” at the rental office.

Sincerely,
Tomás Finn,
