The folk group Lankum has been awarded the RTÉ Choice Music Album of the Year

The renowned Irish folk group, Lankum, secured the Album of the Year award at the RTÉ Choice Music Prize awards for their highly-praised fourth album, False Lankum. They triumphed over CMAT, who was a contender for her sophomore album, Crazymad For Me, and others including Kojaque, Rachael Lavelle, and The Murder Capital, among others.

Jazzy, the breakout Dublin-born singer, was recognised as the Irish Artist of the Year and Breakthrough Artist of the Year. The Crumlin-born singer, who launched her maiden solo single, Giving Me, in March 2020, outperformed other nominees, including CMAT, Hozier, Lankum, and Cian Ducrot, to grab the award.

Jazzy’s single, Giving Me, was also nominated for Best International Song at the Brit Awards, competing against artists like Billie Eilish, Noah Kahan, Olivia Rodrigo, and Miley Cyrus, who ultimately won the award for her song, Flowers.

Cian Ducrot’s track Heaven was declared the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Song of the Year, thanks to a public vote selecting it from a list of ten songs. There were also several contenders for the award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year, including John Francis Flynn, The Scratch, 49th & Main, and ØXN. The awards have been held annually since 2005, with this year’s edition taking place at Vicar Street, Dublin, on Thursday.

U2’s 1991 album Achtung Baby received the Classic Irish Album award. The honour was received by RTÉ 2FM presenter Dave Fanning, while The Edge and Adam Clayton acknowledged the award via a video message from Las Vegas.
