Dear Editor – I developed a deep appreciation for Rory Gallagher’s music and vocal talent back in the 1970s. Known globally for his originality and extraordinary ability in blues and rock music, I was a great fan and would often attend his concerts and buy his albums. Gallagher, who passed away in 1995, was indeed a virtuoso. It brings me great joy to discover that his renowned Stratocaster guitar will soon be on exhibition at the National Museum of Ireland (NMI).
Nevertheless, I can’t help but ponder on the timing of when the NMI will exhibit other musical artefacts related to well-known Irish figures, some of which have been in their vaults for many years. For example, the union pipes belonging to Lord Edward Fitzgerald, who died in 1798, and Turlough Carolan’s harp, with Carolan himself passing away back in 1738. Could these treasures be dusted off and put on view too, one wonders.
