Dear Editor,
We relocated from Dublin to Donegal half a dozen years ago and, despite registering to vote in our new location with all necessary past registration details, continue to receive polling cards at our old home in Dublin Bay South. The error doesn’t end there either. We received voting cards for individuals who haven’t been residents here for in excess of six years. Due to these missteps, seven voting cards were mistakenly linked to us. However, as principled citizens, we exercised our right to vote only once each, resulting in a less than 30 per cent ‘voter turnout’ for our household. It brings into question who is failing our democracy – us, or those at the helm of our political leadership?
Yours faithfully,
Liam Mulligan,
Letterkenny,
County Donegal.
